News from the Centre
July 2010
31 July - Dave Allen the Evening Caretaker retires today after nine years service at the Centre. We wish Dave and his wife Hazel well in their retirement and thank Dave for his contribution to the Centre.
14 July - Councillor Neville Dickinson - Chair of West Parish Council has confirmed that the hand over process of Hilldene Community Centre from Eastleigh Borough Council to the Parish is now complete. The change will not affect the way the centre is run with the management committee being responsible for day to day operation of the buildings, raising funds for day to day expenditure and for raising funding to continue the work on the Renovation Project. The management committee will continue to work closely with the Parish Councillors, the Clerk and other Parish staff.
12 July - The Management Committee held the annual general meeting on Monday 12 July 2010. Members who attended heard reports on the last year from the Chairman, Secretary and the Treasurer. Officers were elected for the coming year, including a new volunteer member to the committee.

June 2010
27 June - This Sunday saw the last service of the Methodist Church at Hilldene. After over 20 years the ladies have had to sadly say goodbye to their regular Sunday morning service at the Centre. Dwindling numbers meant it no longer viable for the ladies to continue. We would like to thank them for all their support and and welcome them back at Hilldene any time they are passing.
26 June - Hilldene Work Day - the day suffered with the good weather in more ways than one. A disappointing turnout meant only a few key tasks could be worked on and we had to compete with the soaring temperatures. Still we managed to complete the painting of the car park wall and start to mark out spaces for parking on the fence.

Please park between the lines Please do not park in front of the steps

The back wall is now painted ready to be marked for parking bays
Please park responsibly when using the Centre car park
19 June - West End Carnival day was another successful fundraising event for Hilldene with over £200 being raised towards the renovation project.

Our popular Tombola stall attracted many people, our thanks to all who donated prizes and to all those who bought tickets on the day.

May 2010
May 29th - Despite the weather West End Pre-School held their annual Fun Day. Many enjoyed the face painting, fire engine, cakes and bouncy castle. Other Pre-School news - the committee are waiting on the final project preparation for the work to extend the facilites available at the pre-school. Work will commence in the near future to provide a larger classroom and other facilities for the children.
May 22nd - Despite the hot weather at the week-end Hilldene welcomed many from the local community to it's first Health & Wellbeing Fayre. Many sampled the alternative therapies on offer including foot massage, henna tattooing and general advice on health & wellbeing. The money raised is going towards the Hilldene roof fund and our thanks to Jackie James for all her hard work in organising the event and everyone who gave up their time to help out on the day. If you want to see more of these types of events in the village let us know contact@hilldenecommunity.co.uk.
May 7th - The West End YoutHouse put their painting skills to the test on Friday evening to help paint the wall in the car park. Around 15 volunteers from the YoutHouse, plus the Youth Workers managed to paint half the wall in the top car park. The idea of painting the wall white is to aid parking in the evenings. The remainder of the wall will be painted in the next week or so. Our thanks to all those who took part.
