July 2010 - Ted Topp Room gets a makeover

The Ted Topp room is currently undergoing redecoration and should be ready for use again after the 20th July.  This is part of the committees ongoing policy to enhance the facilities for centre users.

May 2010 - West, Southampton, Hampshire

Work is now complete on the Hilldene Community Centre Bell Tower - Our thanks to Eastleigh Borough Council for providing the grant and support to complete the work on the bell tower.  Without the financial support of HEWEB the Centre mangement committee would not have been able to ensure that it remained a feature of the building.  The condition of the tower and the weather vane meant that it was likely to collapse at any stage.  Williams Roofing worked hard to ensure that the replacement was as close to the original as possible, they also gave the weather vane a new lease of life and after many years of inactivity it is good to see it in good working order again.

Hilldene Community Centre have been lucky enough to receive a grant of £20,000 towards the Rennovation Project from Eastleigh Borough Council via the HEWEB Committee (Hedge End, West End and Botley).  Our plans our to make a start on the following much needed work:

  • Replace the Bell Tower;
  • Replace the heating system and add thermostats to all radiators; - Work now complete
  • Upgrade the electrical wiring in particular a new consumer unit.

The Management Committee plan to carry out some of the work themselves including external paitwork and work in the gardens.  We are all volunteers, so if you are handy with a paint brush or spade and wish to get involved in some local volunteer work let us know.

9 May 2009 - West End, Southampton, Hampshire

Over 60 friends and family attended a reception to officially rename the rooms at the Centre and launch the Hilldene Renovation Project. Among the invited guests was Chris Huhne MP and representatives from Eastleigh Borough Council and West End Parish Council.  After the speeches, guests enjoyed light refreshments and were able to view the facilities at the centre.

The former St James School in West End, which officially became the Hilldene Community Centre in 1988, is in need of repair and upgrading of facilities.  The target of a little over £150,000 has been set by the Management Committee to carry out the repairs and upgrading required.

The renovations plans will assist to restore the bell tower which is starting to lean and replace the roof and windows which is part of the Centres Environmental Policy.

If you feel that you can help in any way, the Chair of the Management Committee will be delighted to talk to you.  Contact them on chairman@hilldenecommunity.co.uk.
